Heat Pump Not Cooling: Why It Runs Without Cooling and How to Fix It

A heat pump cools a home the same way an air conditioner does, by moving heat out of the house, but it has one part no air conditioner has: a reversing valve that flips the refrigerant flow to switch between heating and cooling. That extra component is the reason a heat pump can run all day, sound completely normal, and still blow air that never turns cold. When a heat pump is not cooling, the cause is often something specific to how a heat pump works, not the general problems that stop any AC.

The Reversing Valve Stuck in Heat Mode

Debris, leaves, and coastal grime packed against the outdoor coil trap the heat the system is trying to release in cooling mode. Low Refrigerant From a Leak
